Wine Wednesday: Donelan Wines

Recently, we have been discussing the Rhône movement in California (catch up here and here!). We are going to continue that for this week’s Rhône 101 lesson, and talk about one of the many wonderful Rhône-style producing wineries here in Sonoma County: Donelan Wines.

A small, boutique winery in Sonoma County, Donelan Wines was founded in the 1980's by Joe Donelan. After a successful corporate career in Connecticut, Joe was drawn to California's wine-making regions. He had a vision to one day create superior Rhône varietals, and made the decision to move to California to begin his journey. Today, Donelan Wines is a family business. Joe's two sons, Tripp and Cushing, share their father's passion for creating an inviting customer experience with every bottle of Donelan Wines.

Featured Wine:

Donelan Wines 2014 Cuvée Moriah, Red Blend, Sonoma County

“One whiff and you’ll be hooked on the 2014 Cuvee Moriah. This California Rhône-style red wine hails from the Dry Stack Vineyard. Grenache is the great contributor to this incredibly aromatic wine. We cannot say enough great things about this gem of a site that we have loved for 10 years. Unlike most California Grenache, this fruit is able to retain idyllic freshness that supports a very dense mid-palate, making Cuvée Moriah a dynamic and irresistible wine.”

Try it at the girl & the fig!

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Donelan Wines, 2014 Cuvée Moriah Red Blend with our Steak Frites (6-ounce prime flat iron steak, frites, roasted garlic & herb butter).
