Summer in Sonoma: A To Do List

By Cecily Gamba

Sweet, sweet, summertime is just around the corner. While there is always something fun to do here in Sonoma, we must say that summer lends itself to some pretty fun activities. Not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up some of the must-dos of the season for you!

Picnic in the Plaza with your favorite Rhône varietal!

1. Picnic in the Sonoma Plaza

Soak in the sun while lazing on a blanket in the Sonoma Plaza. Pick up picnic supplies and a blanket and make your way to the park for a relaxing day on the lawn. Pro tip: from 11:30 a.m. until sunset, consumption of alcoholic beverages is permitted in the Sonoma Plaza park. Grab a bottle of your favorite Rhône varietal at the fig (RATW Wine Club and Suite D members get a discount off the bottle price!) and enjoy.

2. A Visit to Jack London Historic State Park

With over 26 miles of trails across 1,400 acres, it’s easy to spend a day taking in the stunning views and historic buildings at this Glen Ellen landmark. With guided tours, a museum, diverse landscape, and endless natural beauty, you are sure to leave as inspired as the park’s namesake writer.

3. Celebrate the 4th of July

Fourth of July in the Sonoma Plaza

While there are many options for celebrating America’s Independence throughout the week and weekend across Sonoma County, we recommend you check out Sonoma’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration. Starting with a 10 AM parade put on by the Sonoma Volunteer Firefighters Association, the day continues with food, drinks, music and games, and of course, concludes with a brilliant fireworks show.

4. Stock up at the Sonoma Farmers Market

The Valley of the Moon Certified Farmers Market runs every Tuesday, May-September beginning at 5:30 pm in the Sonoma Plaza. Stroll through for locally grown food, performances from local musicians, and delicious meals from neighborhood vendors. Don’t forget to stop by and say hi to the fig rig while you’re there!

5. Follow the Cheese Trail

Via CheeseTrail.org

Along with wine and many other world class items, California produces some of the best cheeses in the world. This summer, take a day to tour and taste through some of the area’s finest, including Sonoma’s own Vella Cheese Company.

6. Take in some Music

Throughout Sonoma County, there are many opportunities to take in some wonderful music while enjoying the warm summer weather. From Broadway Under the Stars, to Gun Bun’s Huichica Music Festival, to the many concert series featured at wineries across the county, there will be something for everyone. 7. Make a Splash

Via MortonsWarmSprings.com

For over 70 years, families have been playing and swimming at Morton’s Warm Springs. Spend the day in the sun with two mineral pools, a baby pool, lawn, picnic area, and more!

8. Taste Local Wine

For many, this one goes without saying. Of course one MUST taste some of the best wines in the world from our very own world renowned wine growing region! With over 425 wineries to choose from, there will be something to satisfy even the pickiest of palates. Pro tip: make a tasting reservation during the busier months to ensure you stay on schedule!
