Featured Neighbor: Passaggio Wines

By: Cecily Gamba

Being in Sonoma, we have the good fortune of being surrounded by an abundance of wonderful neighboring businesses. Kitty-corner from the girl & the fig on the Sonoma Square is our Featured Neighbor Business, Passaggio Wines!

Passaggio Wines was founded in 2007 by Cynthia Cosco. After a 15 year career in Law Enforcement on the east coast, Cosco decided to pick up and move cross country to pursue her passion for wine making. In 2004, she connected with an employee from Chateau St Jean, which landed her a part time harvest job, which turned into a full time wine chemist position. From 2004-2007, Cosco studied enology at the Napa Valley College. In 2007, Cosco moved on to a position with a custom crush facility called Crushpad, and, during her time with them, launched Passaggio Wines. The name translated from Italian to mean “passage way,” and was inspired by Cosco’s family’s immigration to the US from Italy in the early 1900s. Since 2012, Cosco has been fully dedicated to the Passaggio brand, opening the Passaggio Wines Tasting Room in 2014, and her own wine making facility in 2016.

Passaggio Wines currently produces about 1700 cases a year. The brand prides itself on small lot, food friendly wines, with most lots only being about 65-150 cases each. The brand started with unoaked Chardonnay, and have been growing in varietals produced ever since. The winery offers many other whites, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chenin Blanc, and Trousseau Gris. Reds are produced as well, from Merlots to Pinot Noirs. She also produces some lovely Rhône varietals, which you know we love! 😉

Next time you find yourself strolling the Sonoma Square (before your reservation at the girl & the fig! 😉) Stop in to Passaggio Wines Tasting Room. Their lovely staff is there every day from 12-6 PM ready to pour you something we’re sure you’ll love. Tastings are $20 for 4 tastes and $30 for 6; fees are waived with a $50 Passaggio wine purchase. Private tastings (including a private barrel experience!) can be scheduled by calling ahead.

We are also excited to welcome Passaggio Wines to Suite D on June 8th as one of our participating wineries for Rosé Day!

Cheers to Passaggio Wines!
