Photo by Janae Shields Photography | Floral by Amy Burke Designs
You've chosen the venue, found the perfect dress, tasted and picked the most delicious food, and are even already dreaming of your honeymoon (let's not get ahead of ourselves here!). Now comes one of the most exciting parts, which is the cake!
By this point, you should have began the hardest job ever - eating different cakes. It's important to try all the flavors you're interested in so you can be sure to choose the right one. Really, this is the easy part because who doesn't like cake? The tough part of this process is choosing the exact style and design for your cake that will fit into your overall wedding theme.
Choosing the perfect wedding cake that embodies the look and feel of your wedding can be tricky. Between all the styles and trends, it can be hard to keep up. To help you get inspired, we're going to walk through some of the buttercream cake designs that Crisp Bakeshop has created in the past, to help you get you're wheels turning. Then when you're ready, we'll be here to create that perfect cake for your dream day!
Textured Stripes

There's elegant simplicity in choosing a textured buttercream cake. If you're looking for a design that's slightly more elevated than a smooth buttercream cake, adding some texture into the design is the perfect way to do that. Plus. there are many styles in which we can add texture to your cake including horizontal or vertical stripes, a combed texture, or even a fun spiraled rustic texture.
Naked

If you're a trend-seeker, then the naked style cake might be the perfect style for you. While this style cake has been super trendy for a while now, it's also the perfect choice if you're looking for a very unique wedding cake. With this cake, the outside remains plain while the inner layers receive lots of delicious buttercream frosting in between.
Semi-Naked

Looking for the ultimate Pinterest-worthy wedding cake? Semi-naked wedding cakes are somewhere in between a naked cake and a fully-frosted cake. This beautiful design has been one of the most popular wedding cake style choices over the past year among couples. We love this style because it adds an element of rustic style to your dessert table. With the addition of fresh floral, it makes for a lovely cake design.

If you're looking for an elegant and creative wedding cake, then this might be the perfect pick for you. A cake with a different texture on each tier is lovely and very visually appealing. It's also a great choice if you're stuck choosing between two textures that you love, like ruffles vs. rosettes, or stripes vs. dots. With this style you can have them all!
Simple & Elegant (with a fun topper!)

First off, this is one of the CUTEST cake toppers ever! There are so many adorable toppers out there like these for you to pick from. We suggest checking out Etsy for some super creative ones. The fun thing with cake toppers is that they work perfectly with smooth or textured buttercream cakes, and can match lovely with fresh florals or greenery as well.
Beautiful Fresh Floral

With all the amazing local florists we have here in Sonoma County, it's almost always the right choice to have some type of floral or greenery gracing your cake. Colorful vibrant flowers are fun for spring wedding cakes, while softer pink-tone flowers are sometimes perfect for spring weddings. For winter and fall weddings you can work with your florist to place ivy or succulents on your cake, for the perfect wintery rustic feel.
Earthy & Natural

The woodland or earthy look is beautiful, especially if that's the overall theme and feel of your wedding. This can be done by choosing a semi-naked style cake design, and then having your florist add succulents or greenery. We love how these two couples also chose to forego the cake topper, and swap in some natural green toppers instead!
Rustic
Rustic wedding cakes are perfect for barn, ranch, or even vineyard weddings. In terms of design, rustic style wedding cakes are similar to earthy wedding cakes in that they will both have a more natural feel to their design. This means that the buttercream will be white without any coloring, with lots of natural greenery on the cake. To really give your wedding cake that rustic feel, go for a wood cake stand.
Multiple Cakes

Having trouble settling on just one cake flavor? It's okay, we love cake that much too! Rather than choosing one large wedding cake, the best choice for you might be to go for multiple smaller cakes. While we can create single larger cakes with tiers of different flavors, sometimes it's fun to have multiple smaller cakes on your dessert table. That way, if you're looking to get super creative, you can choose a different design or texture for each cake too.
Macaroons!

Not looking to choose a cake at all? A macaroon cake or tower might be perfect for you! These are such fun additions to a dessert table when the bride and groom are looking for something a little less traditional than a wedding cake. Or, if you're looking to mix in a little tradition, a cake adorned with macaroons is also a lovely option.
