Wine Wednesday: The Ojai Vineyard, 2016 Viognier, Ventura County
"Wine is not just an object of pleasure, but an object of knowledge; and the pleasure depends on the knowledge."
-Roger Scruton
This Week: The Ojai Vineyard, 2016 Viognier
About Ojai Vineyard:
In 1933, Adam Tolmach's grandfather purchased a plot of land in the Ojai Valley, where he farmed sweet corn and melons. In 1976, Adam used this land to found his vineyard, The Ojai Vineyard. With a degree from UC Davis in viticulture and enology, Adam planted Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc in 1982, and began his first batch of wine production from that fruit in 1983.
Tasting Notes:
This 2016 vintage has aromas of fresh white stone fruits and flowers, wet rocks and lime zest. On the palate it swells with texture before pulling into a focused mouthwatering finish. This is a very bright Viognier with surprising acidity.
Pairings:
At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing The Ojai Vineyard, 2016 Viognier with our Seared Scallops (corn cake, bacon vinaigrette, garden basil, baby kale).
At home try it with seafood such as lobster, crab, or shrimp.
Cheers!
