Wine Wednesday: Flanagan Wines, 2013 Syrah, Sonoma County

"Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out of doors by somebody I do not know."

-John Keats

This Week: Flanagan Wines, 2013 Syrah, Sonoma County

About Flanagan Wines:

Eric Flanagan, the proprietor of Flanagan Wines, did not grow up with the dream of one day owning a winery. Instead, he became interested in the process of wine-making through traveling to wine-growing regions like New Zealand and Greece. Eric found himself fascinated by the grapes themselves. He learned that grapes of the same varietal had the ability to grow and develop different characteristics from one another, simple due to the various regions in which they were being grown. Inspired and intrigued by the wine-making processes he discovered around the world, Eric decided to start his own winery in Sonoma in the late 1990's.

Tasting Notes:

The wine-maker's defining word for this 2013 vintage is "balance". This Syrah exemplifies a mix of dark red fruits, savory bay leaf and earth notes, and a classic Rhône profile with fruit components, bacon fat, and a hint of white pepper and briar.

Pairings:

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Flanagan Wines, 2013 Syrah with our Sonoma Mountain Beef Burger (grilled onions, house-made pickles, frites). For a vegetarian option, try it with our Smoked Eggplant (broccoli rabe, oven-dried tomatoes, crispy polenta, salsa verde).

At home enjoy with red meats such as grilled lamb, pulled pork, or grilled eggplant.

Cheers!
