Wine Wednesday: Roger Roessler Wines, 2013 Carignane, Santa Ynez Valley

"Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day more civilized."

-Andre Simon

This Week: Roger Roessler Wines, 2013 Carignane, Santa Ynez Valley

About Roger Roessler Wines:

Together, brothers Roger and Richard Roessler have been producing Roger Roessler Wines for over 17 years. Founding brother, Roger Roessler, began his career in the restaurant industry. For 40 years, Roger opened and managed restaurants all across the Unites States, including on the Sonoma Plaza. With each of his restaurants, Roger always placed an emphasis on including fine wines on the menu. In the 1990's, Roger switched gears from the restaurant business to the wine-making business, and began making single-vineyard Pinot Noir in 2000. Today, Roger's goal is to craft wines that are both great in taste and value, and that represent the characteristics of the area in which they are created.

Tasting Notes:

This 2013 Carignane has aromas of French crushed blackberry, fig and cedar with flavors of fruit, earth, black fig, plum, berry, sage and morel. It is brimming with fresh fruit and acidity, and will develop even further in the bottle for the next 5 years.

Pairings:

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Roger Roessler Wines, 2013 Carignane this week with our chicken & figs (roasted garlic, cipollini onions, fingerling potatoes, & honey-wine glaze) or smoked eggplant (broccoli rabe, oven-dried tomatoes, crispy polenta, salsa verde).

At home enjoy with aged gouda, a simple green salad, roast turkey or chicken, and eggplant or butternut squash.

Cheers!
