Wine Wednesday: Alban Vineyards, 2015 Viognier, Central Coast

"Drinking good wine with good food in good company is one of life's most civilized pleasures."

-Michael Broadbent

This Week: Alban Vineyards, 2015 Viognier, Central Coast

About Alban Vineyards:

John Alban, founder of Alban Vineyards, first began to wonder about wine production when he was just 6 years old. Years later in 1989, John created California's first winery and vineyard dedicated exclusively to Rhone Varietals. Described as "the spiritual and qualitative leader of the Rhône Ranger movement", John once took Viognier vine cuttings, which were non-existent to California at the time and rare in the world, and slowly began generating commercial quantities of vines. At a time when there were just 50 acres of Viognier in the world, John propagated 32 acres. Today, John has had a significant impact on wine production in California, and Alban Vineyards has now created over 2,000 acres of Viognier vines.

Tasting Notes:

This 2015 Viognier from Alban Vineyards is made from 100% estate fruit. With aromas of ripe peach, flowers, and exotic honey, this remains one of the greatest Viognier wines in California. It's rich, unctuous, and concentrated on the palate with fabulous purity.

Pairings:

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Alban Vineyards, 2015 Viognier with our Mt. Lassen Trout (toasted herb couscous, lobster-scented tomato broth, red onion, fennel & black olive salad) and semi-soft cheeses.

At home enjoy with scallops, lobster, or mild curries.

Cheers!
