Wine Wednesday: JCK Wine Co.'s 2014 Sucker Punch, Red Blend
As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list. We’ve always loved that featuring unique wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.
This Week: JCK Wine Company's 2014 "Sucker Punch," Red Blend, Sonoma County
Growing up in the Central Valley with parents in the agricultural business, founder John Kane learned farming at a young age.
After spending over twenty years in the wine industry, John fulfilled a lifelong dream opening JCK Wine Company in 2014. Today, this family-owned winery creates three distinct wines and works with local growers to access the best fruit in Sonoma. The Sucker Punch blend comes from three local vineyards: Adams Vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, Big River Ranch in Alexander Valley, and Landa Vineyard in Sonoma Valley.
Tasting Notes:
Sucker Punch '14 is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier with the unique aromas of raspberry, strawberry, bacon fat, tangerine, and black pepper. The sweetness of red fruit, mocha, wild game, and baking spice make this wine an elegant and inviting blend.
Pairings:
At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing the 2014 "Sucker Punch" Red Blend with the sonoma mountain beef burger (grilled onions, house-made pickles, frites),
12 oz prime new york strip (center cut, grilled portobello mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, crispy onions) and soft cheeses.
At home enjoy with steak, salad, and roasted potatoes.
Cheers!
