Wine Wednesday: Tablas Creek Vineyard 2014 Mourvedre, Paso Robles, Adelaida District
As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list. We’ve always loved that featuring unique wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.
This Week: Tablas Creek Vineyard 2014 Mourvedre, Paso Robles, Adelaida District
About the Partner and Founder: Robert Haas
As Managing Partner of Tablas Creek since its foundation in 1989, Haas has consistently spoken in favor of organic viticulture, minimum-intervention winemaking and wines of terroir and sophistication. He has spoken on wine and winemaking topics at festivals around the country, including the New York Wine Experience, the Boston Wine Expo, Society of Wine Educators annual meeting, Santa Fe Wine & Chile Fiesta, Hospice du Rhône, Central Coast Wine Classic and many others. Tasting Notes:
The 2014 Mourvèdre has lifted aromas of raspberry, new leather, bramble, baked plum, and cloves on the nose. The palate shows flavors of warm berry compote, rich texture, and spicy nutmeg. It’s delicious now, but bites of tannin on the finish hint at even greater promise to come.
Pairings:
At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Tablas Creek Vineyard 2014 Mourvedre with 12oz prime new york strip (center cut, grilled portabella mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, crispy onions), grilled pork belly sandwich (duck liver mousse, pickled vegetables, mint, greens, frites) and hard cheeses.
At home enjoy with roast leg of lamb with potatoes and onions.
Cheers!
