Wine Wednesday: Muddy Arch 2014 Roussanne, Landa Vineyard, Sonoma Valley
As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list. We’ve always loved that featuring unique wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.
This Week: Muddy Arch 2014 Roussanne, Landa Vineyard, Sonoma Valley
About the winemaker:
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Chris Leonard experienced childhood family dinners paired with crisp Pinot Grigio from Italy, lean Chardonnay from Chablis, earthy Pinot Noir from Burgundy, or a variety of hearty red wines from Italy. Discovering the synergy created between structured wine and cuisine led Chris to pursue a career in fine winemaking. Source
Tasting Notes:
The 2014 Landa Vineyard Roussanne has a bouquet fit for a queen, providing layers of limestone, lime zest, and white peach skin intertwined with honeycomb and spice. Integrated acidity and viscosity plague the palate while a touch of salinity from the nearby San Pablo bay hangs out with a fun pear flavor on the finish.
Pairings:
At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Muddy Arch 2014 Roussanne with chicken thighs (spring onions, asparagus, fingerlings, toasted farro, carrot puree), crispy pork belly sandwich (duck liver mousse, pickled vegetables, mint, greens, frites) and hard cheeses.
At home enjoy with fettuccine chicken alfredo and a tossed green salad.
Cheers!
