Wine Wednesday: the girl & the fig, 2016 Bistro White Blend, Sierra Foothills

As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list. We’ve always loved that featuring unique wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.

This week: the girl & the fig, 2016 Bistro White Blend, Sierra Foothills

About the winemaking process:

A white Rhone style blend from Sierra Foothills, the Viognier was harvested and pressed off into a tank to begin a native fermentation. The Marsanne and Roussanne were brought in a week later and pressed on top, homogenized and drained to neutral French oak to continue fermentation. The wine goes through native malolactic fermentation and spends its entire 6 months in barrel on the lees. The wine is un-fined and unfiltered.

Tasting Notes:

Floral on the nose, this wine transitions to a spicy textural palate showcasing delicate tropical and orchard fruits.

Pairings:

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing the girl & the fig, 2016 Bistro White Blend with mt. lassen trout (snap peas, carrots, sesame, purple rice), dry-aged new york strip (grilled portabella mushrooms, creamy mashed potatoes, crispy onions) and hard cheeses.

At home enjoy with seafood stew and sourdough toast.

Cheers!
