Wine Wednesday: Innocent Bystander 2015 Syrah, Yarra Valley, Australia
As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list.
We’ve always loved that featuring unique Rhône wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.
This week: Innocent Bystander 2015 Syrah, Yarra Valley, Australia
About the vineyard:
This wine is principally from the Sexton and Tarraford Vineyards, with a smaller contribution from Lone Star Creek vineyard on the upper Yarra basalt soils and is created from 100% hand-picked fruit. Source
Tasting Notes:
Perfumed with spice, pepper and meaty aromas fighting for power alongside cherries, blueberries and plums. The palate is both ripe and fruit-forward but light on its feet, with all kinds of red and black fruits coating the palate. Hints of minerals, toasty oak and mixed spices, with fine tannins and refreshing acidity. Source
Pairings:
At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Innocent Bystander 2015 Syrah, Yarra Valley, Australia with grilled octopus (chorizo, potatoes, roasted peppers, lemon aioli), Steak Frites (6-ounce prime flat iron steak, frites, roasted garlic & herb butter) and potato gnocchi (bacon, winter squash, parmesan, black olives & roasted peppers).
At home enjoy with a pan seared pork chop topped with baked sliced apples and mashed potatoes.
Cheers!
