Wine Wednesday: Landmark Vineyards 2014 Grenache, Sonoma Valley

As you may know, since the very beginning the girl & the fig has offered an exclusively “Rhône-alone” wine list.

We’ve always loved that featuring unique Rhône wines gives us an opportunity to begin a conversation with our guests, perhaps introduce them to something new, as well as to present talented and innovative producers we believe in.

This week: Landmark Vineyards 2014 Grenache, Sonoma Valley

About the winemaker: Greg Stach Greg Stach is renowned for crafting elegant, world-class vintages. Stach’s winemaking approach combines traditional techniques with a “less is more” philosophy. Believing that great wine begins in the vineyard, he intervenes only to ensure consistency and quality, relying more on the fruit’s intense flavors and distinct vineyard characteristics. Source

Tasting notes:

A rich, aromatic bouquet of notes of tarragon, kirsch, hibiscus tea, rhubarb, plum pudding and Concord grape. On the palate, velvety fruit tannins coat the mouth before giving away to black tea and coriander. The finish is lengthy and bold with red raspberries, candied orange and cocoa.

Pairings:

At the girl & the fig we’d recommend pairing Landmark Vineyards 2014 Grenache with steak frites (6-ounce flat iron steak, frites, roasted garlic & herb butter), sonoma mountain beef burger (grilled onions, house-made pickles, frites), or hard cheeses.

At home the bold acidity and fruit balanced by the minerality and earth will pair perfectly with Duck à l’Orange, roasted root vegetable risotto, or herb braised turkey thighs.

Cheers!
